The Character Game
Jesus threw the money changers and sellers out of the Temple. The common people saw his actions as the fulfillment of their hopes for the Messiah, who would reform the corrupt leadership of the Temple. Of course, the Temple leadership saw his intrusion as an attack on their vendors. And for his attack, Jesus would pay the ultimate price: his death.
Jesus was willing to make a stand on a principle and suffer the consequences. Willingness to stand on principle despite the costs reveals strength of character. To stress this point with your family, play the "Character Game." Create three questions for discussion about issues of moral principle. For example, you found a $20.00 bill on the sidewalk. What do you do: keep it or find the owner? Why? Would Jesus do the same thing? Why? Use discussion on these questions to introduce the reading from John.
